“Your true worth is determined by how much you give in value than you take in payment.”
Do your coworkers cringe when you approach them or do their faces light up? Does your boss grumble when you walk in his/her office, or they greet you kindly? If you experience the cringing and grumbling, it could be because they don’t feel valued by you.
How do get others to feel valued?
Before I tell you how you need to know why. Answer: Because showing true value in others provokes their emotions. Emotions = HOW PEOPLE FEEL.
People will forget what you said, but they won’t forget how you made them feel. Nobody likes to be around people who make them feel dumb, belittled or bothered.
Okay now that we’ve covered the ‘why’, here’s HOW to show value:
1.) Give thought, attention and focus when he/she is speaking to you. Stop thinking about what you are going to say next and be completely tuned into their words.
2.) Give your time and energy to serving him/her in a way that is not quid pro quo or as a strategy to get ahead.
3.) Be their champion; Not in a fake, disingenuous way either. Be their advocator and supporter! This can be as simple as giving them a shout out for a job well done or thanking them for catching that mistake you
